High School Scholarship
On May 15, 2025, the Junior Women's League of Smithfield proudly awarded $3,000 in scholarships to four exceptional high school seniors during our General Membership Meeting. Led by our Grants and Scholarship Committee Chair, Dr. Emily Cayton, and members Betsy Dunn-Williams, Dr. Kendra Hancock, Kimberly Hayes-Johnson, and Dr. L'Bertrice Solomon, these scholarships were made possible by proceeds from our signature fundraisers — Touch-A-Truck and Big Night Out. These incredible students have demonstrated not only academic excellence but also a deep commitment to volunteerism and serving their communities, especially when they identify a need. Their dedication is both inspiring and a true reflection of the League’s mission. The Junior Women's League of Smithfield established the JWL Scholarship in 2019 to advance our mission of fostering women's leadership by empowering young women in our community to achieve their full academic potential. The Grants and Scholarship Committee is dedicated to recognizing outstanding young women in the Johnston County community who demonstrate a strong commitment to personal growth, supporting others, and making a meaningful impact through academic excellence, volunteerism, and community involvement.

To date, JWL has awarded $10,000 in high school scholarships to 15 young women residing in Johnston County. In addition, JWL awards one $1,000 scholarship per league year for a single mom attending Johnston Community College, administered by the Johnston Community College Foundation.
